Poniente Academy

My Wife and I decided to home school our kids , Why? Because parents who home school are completely in charge of not only what their children learn, but how and when they learn it.
We want to ensure that our children are gonna be raised with the values and beliefs that we want them to have, and they’re sheltered from negative influences (bullies, peer pressure, academic competition etc.), I'm not saying that all schools are bad I'm merely saying that I would like to take my chance on home schooling my kids. Besides Homeschoolers allows parents to build a very close bond with their children. The joys of teaching and learning together can be profound. There are plenty of opportunities to offer love and support to one another. There are never limitations on when you can go for a walk, go to the museum or even go on a vacation. If a child is sick, he or she can be under constant care.

One of the first questions that most people have when the topic of homeschooling comes up is how it affects the socialization process. Questions frequently arise around the issue of how homeschooled children will learn to make friends, behave around other people (particularly those who have a different ethnic, cultural or religious background) and assert themselves (or, conversely, know when to stop asserting themselves).

Socialization is a continuing process by which people learn to recognize and use the norms, values and behavior patterns of their community. Many psychologists argue that the most important period of socialization in a person’s life occurs between the ages of one and ten. Perhaps because of this, it’s a commonly-held misconception that educational institutions are a necessary part of the process of socialization.

In Western society, schools serve as major socializing agents, but they’re not necessary in order to produce socially-healthy children. The truth is that the school as a socializing agent is a relatively new development. Prior to the 19th century and the introduction of laws that made school attendance compulsory, it was uncommon for children to receive an institutional education. Instead, children were educated and socialized in a family setting.
