In Illinois,
Illinois law requires that students between the ages of 7 and 17 attend a public
school (increased in 2004), or else attend a private or parochial school where
the branches of education are taught in the English language to children of the
same age and grade as in the public schools.
In 1950, the Illinois Supreme
Court ruled that homeschools are to be considered as private schools. In "People
vs. Levisen" the court ruled that a private school is:
"a place where
instruction is imparted to the young. . . the number of persons being taught
does not determine whether a place is a school."read more about Illinois
The states that have no requirements for homeschooling do not require the
parents to initiate any contact. These states include Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma,
Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey and the
territories of Guam and Puerto Rico. Parents are not obligated to contact the
school districts to notify them that they will be homeschooling their
children. It's nice to have more freedom, but I believe that you should teach your children the basics for life. Such as, Reading, Language Arts, Math, Spelling, History (because it's fun to an extent) would be helpful to children. It's nice to have the flexibility to teach your children in various ways, because children seem to be more interested in Math for example, when shown how to use it in real life like when shopping for groceries, etc. (I remember when I was a kid a lot of us "kids" wanted to know "how does this math relate to real life?")
